BJP's Manoj Tiwari asked Kumar Vishwas to join BJP, offered him Delhi CM's post: AAP leader

BJP's Manoj Tiwari asked Kumar Vishwas to join BJP, offered him Delhi CM's post: AAP leader

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party saying that a BJP MP asked him to join the party and help it win Delhi elections.
Vishwas, who lost the parliamentary elections from Amethi constituency made the startling claims while speaking to a leading newspaper.
The AAP leader, considered to be a close confidante of his party convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that a BJP MP had met him on May 19 at his residence and persuaded him to join the party. “The MP claimed he was meeting me at the behest of top BJP leaders and offered him the chief minister's post,” Vishwas said.
While speaking to ANI, Vishwas questioned BJP's reluctance to contest polls in Delhi, while the latter is ready for polls in Haryana and Maharashtra.
Surprisingly, the activist-turned politician refused to name the BJP politician citing personal relations.

Laying credentials to Vishwas' claims, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that BJP MP and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari had met his party colleague on 19th May and said that if he could bring 18 MLAs along with him, the BJP will make him the CM.
Another AAP leader Somnath Bharti said whatever Vishwas is saying is true and accused the BJP of betraying the people with false promises.
Meanwhile, the BJP has reacted strongly to Vishwas' claims. Party MP Satish Upadhyay said, it seems Kejriwal has written a new script for Vishwas and dared him to reveal the name of the BJP leader who approached him.
Congress has also ridiculed Vishwas assertions and said AAP leaders are making such allegations to stay politically relevant. Party leader Barkha Shukla accused AAP members of being greedy for power.
Delhi has been under the President's rule since February 17 this year after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister in protest against the Lieutenant Governor's refusal to allow the introduction of the 'Janlokpal Bill' in the Assembly.
The Supreme Court had earlier this month asked the Centre to take a decision on holding the Delhi Assembly elections following a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party asking for the dissolution of the Assembly and fresh polls.

Mark Zuckerberg Is Making A Huge Move To Threaten Google's Search Business

Facebook is testing a tool that will allow its users to search for posts using keywords. Bloomberg reports that some Facebook users on the mobile app have been given the option to search for old posts from their Facebook friends.
In a statement emailed to Bloomberg, Facebook called the experiment an "improvement to search on mobile." There's currently no indication whether the keyword search will roll out to all users, or if Facebook plans to bring it to the desktop site.
Facebook Search has long been considered an important area for the site, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg commenting in Facebook's July earnings call that "Search for Facebook is going to be a multiyear voyage."
Zuckerberg considers an expanded version of Facebook Search a powerful tool, one that could even rival search engine giant Google. In the site's Q4 2013 earnings call, Zuckerberg hinted at the value of allowing users to search through Facebook's vast amount of content, remarking "There are more than a trillion status updates and unstructured text posts and photos and pieces of content that people have shared over the past 10 years, and indexing that was a really big deal, because as the number of people on the team who have worked on web search engines in the past have told me, a trillion pieces of content is more than the index in any web search engine."
The roll-out of a proper search system on Facebook may see opposition from privacy campaigners, however. A $16 million class action lawsuit filed in a European court is seeking damages from Facebook for, amongst other allegations, the "unlawful" introduction of Graph Search. The limited Graph Search function was released in March 2013, and allowed users to perform basic searches to see, for example, which of their friends work at certain companies, or like specific pages

 Film: Mardaani
Director: Pradeep Sarkar
Cast: Rani Mukerji, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Sanjay Taneja, Jisshu Sengupta
Rating: ***

When a YRF production begins on an unglamorous note, with regular cop banter in a van, it is immediately taken as a signal of intent, and perhaps, rare ambition. Four minutes pass without a strand of a background score as Rani Mukerji—playing no-nonsense Maharashtrian crime-branch cop Shivani Shivaji Roy—demonstrates her badassery by cracking down on a shady smuggler or two.

Even if the bold subject demands such gravitas and treatment, this restraint is unprecedented by studio standards. The silence doesn't last too long though. A glorifying score and a couple of whistle-worthy lines are the only habitual commercial allowances, as the attention is solely and squarely on Roy. No love stories, no songs, no dance contests. Even her husband (Jisshu Sengupta) is no more than a sidenote.

It helps that we're already in the thick of things early on. Roy's motive is established quickly: A flower-seller girl is kidnapped from an orphanage, and it turns out that she was 'like family' to her. This seems convenient, but it often takes a personal loss for even the most clued-on minds to wake up and smell the script. For the remainder, it is Roy and her relentless pursuit of this organized child-trafficking/drug mafia based out of Delhi—where perverse ways (auctions, paedophile politicos) expectedly extend to the top. The moody production design and camerawork is top-notch, as is the casting of secondary characters (notably Anil George as Vakil)—all of who lend an adequately disturbing undertow to proceedings, even as the writing lags.

Rani is compelling as Roy, especially when she engages in a cat-and-mouse psychological game with a bratty super-villain and anonymous chief (Tahir Bhasin)—who calls himself 'Walt' (after his favourite TV-series character Walter White from "Breaking Bad"). Apart from an early blink-and-miss desert-lizard establishing shot, the tribute is complete with posters of the series adorning his room. Bhasin is remarkably chilling as Walt for the precise reason he isn't; he's too unassuming, self-aware and young to be a criminal mastermind.

The gimmicky stunts begin only towards the climax, where you know you're going to see something on the lines of Roy walking away in slow-mo from a burning bus. Because she is a victim of her own ego much like Walt, the verbal-explanation-of-masterplan-flashbacks tendency—however cliched—is almost a logical extension of their juvenile battle that culminates into a sermon-riddled spectacle. Her plan could have been less showboating and more logical, but where's the film in it then?

That the trailers of Mardaani were disappointing could be a blessing in disguise. But for the climax, it is an understated and relatively agreeable mainstream film—manipulative but not exploitative—that thankfully falls short of sensationalizing a serious issue.

Apple to unveil 'iWatch' on September 9: Report

 iwatch concept

Apple will unveil an "iWatch" in September with the maker of the iPhone finally embarking on its much-rumored foray into wearable computing, technology news website Re/code said Wednesday.
The California tech giant is expected to merge style and innovation, along with sensors and computing power, in a wrist-worn device that links wirelessly to iPhones or iPads.
Apple is believed to be planning a September 9 event at which it will introduce the iWatch, along with new-generation iPhone 6 smartphones with increased screen sizes.
The company has not sent out invitations to such an event, nor -- as is standard Apple practice -- has it commented on reports it will even take place.
Apple's next-generation iPhones are rumored to have screen sizes stretched to 4.7 and 5.5 inches and have faster processors.
Apple typically updates its product cycle in the second half of the year, getting a lift from holiday sales.
Last year it unveiled the iPhone 5S and the lower-priced iPhone 5C in September, getting record sales at the launch.
Apple is tuning a new operating system which allows for mobile payments and includes a health platform, which could mesh nicely with an "iWatch" for tracking activity, sleep, pulse and more.
The system iOS8 is expected to be in the new iPhones.

Different format, different Team India

It wasn't surprising to see a drastically different India in the second ODI against England at Cardiff on Wednesday. A team coming from consecutive Test defeats - both inside three days - took to ODIs like fish to water. And before we forget, it's the ODI champions after all that we are talking about here.
The reinforcement for the ODI leg of England tour didn't take time to spring into action. Led by Suresh Raina's quickfire ton, India, No. 2 in ICC rankings, defeated both rain and England to romp home victors by 133 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja too hit his groove in the format he prefers - doing the job with the ball in a four-wicket spell that orchestrated England's collapse. From 54 for 0, the hosts slipped to 161 all out.

Different format, different Team India

Rohit Sharma, who, like the rest of the Indian batsmen was found wanting in the Test series, came into his own at Cardiff with an innings of 52 - though he must be kicking dirt to not get a century like Raina.

MS Dhoni, who was one of the very few Indian batsmen to tackle England bowlers in Tests, was in his elements as well - hitting 52 and adding 144 runs in just 16.5 overs with Raina, who scored his century in just 74 balls before getting out the very next delivery.
What possibly clicked for India in Cardiff was the introduction of fresh legs and an uncomplicated approach. Raina, who joined the squad for ODIs, had no baggage of Test embarrassment on his back. Rather he had a point to prove after being overlooked for the Test squad.
Mohit Sharma, who too has arrived with Raina for the ODIs, also made his presence felt with a testing spell at the top. Though he couldn't get among the wickets, his six-over spell of 0/18 allowed Jadeja to tighten the noose around the English batsmen.
But it will be a touch early to label it as 'change of fortune' on the basis of just one match. India will have to do it more consistently, and the next week will tell us if they can.

Flipkart, Intel join hands for a Rs 5,999 tablet

Posted By: Unknown - 8/28/2014 12:05:00 am

Widening its portfolio of devices under the Digiflip Pro brand Flipkart has launched three new Intel-powered tablets. The new range includes a 7-inch Wi-Fi only ET701 as well as 8 and 9 inch tablets with both Wi-Fi and 3G versions.

In fact, the seven inch tablet will be among the most affordable in the market with a price tag of just Rs 5,999. It has an 1024x600p IPS display and is powered by a  1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 processor running Android Jelly Bean. The tablet has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage expandable by up to 32GB. It comes with a 2800 mAH battery.

The 8-inch XT 811 and XT 801 will be powered by 2 GHz Intel Atom Z2580 processors and have a 1280 x 800p HD screen. It will be powered by a 4200 mAH battery and will have 16GB storage. The Wi-Fi only version will cost Rs 8,999, while the version with 3G calling will cost Rs 10,000.

The 8.9-inch XT 911 and XT 901 come with a Full HD screen and has a larger 6500 mAh Li-polymer, but has the same processor as the 8-incher. The Wi-Fi model has been priced at Rs 13,999, while the 3G version will cost Rs 2,000 more.

Michael Adnani, VP – Retail & Head – Brand Alliances, Flipkart, told IndianExpress.com that the idea was to offer something for everyone who can afford to spend on a tablet. Fipkart had launched another Android device a couple of months back and Adnani said the new devices made their spectrum pretty wide and plugged all the gaps. “At the moment the premium is all about quality and not the price as before. Our tablets offer affordability and value,” he added.

Sandeep Aurora, Director Marketing and Market Development, Intel South Asia said it is good see that the low quality tablets which had been clouding user judgement for long has started exiting the market. “We can now ensure that the customer is wowed by their first tablet experience, unlike before,” he said, adding that the market will keep evolving till it figures out what are the types of tablets that will sell.

Aurora said the trend of tablets with calling was still quite storng in India as a lot of Indian look at this feature as a fail safe mechanism when their primary phone has an issue. Adnani added that the tablet market in India was unlike the rest of the world. “Our effort is to develop a tablet market for the India consumer that solves his specific needs and problems.”

Govt launches ‘.bharat’ domain name for eight Indian languages

Posted By: Unknown - 8/27/2014 11:59:00 pm

With an aim to bridge the digital divide and enhance the reach of Internet to remote villages, communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday launched domain name ‘.bharat’, covering eight languages including Hindi, Konkani and Marathi.

The name would have ‘.bharat’ in Hindi script as its extension instead of commonly top-level domains such as .com, .net or .in.
Users can also secure domain names in Boro, Dogri, Maithili, Nepali and Sindhi-Devanagari. The availability of domain names in Hindi and other languages can be verified from Thursday.
The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) manages the .IN Registry, a nodal body mandated with the registration and operation of dot In domain names. In the next few months, NIXI also plans to launch domain name in other Indian languages such as in Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu.
NIXI has been spearheading the goal of multilingual Internet and to achieve this it has collaborated with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing in setting up of an expert team on Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs).
Prasad said local languages, content and culture will increasingly become important themes for the future expansion of the Internet, adding that mobile devices and applications as well as social media will be important determinants of this growth.

Xiaomi Mi3 sold out within two seconds on Flipkart

Posted By: Unknown - 8/05/2014 08:08:00 pm

Xiaomi had earlier revealed its plan to sell 15,000 units of the Mi 3 on e-commerce website Flipkart at 2 p.m on Tuesday.

Lose the Wires

The third flash sale of the Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone was over in just two seconds on Tuesday, the Chinese handset maker posted on its Facebook page.

Within two seconds, the phone was sold out. While many registered users were able to add the phone to the cart, there were others who complained about an error appearing on Flipkart or the webpage failing to load.

Many users posted on the Mi India official page that the phone was added to the cart and they were asked to make the payment next. However, for some users, Flipkart showed that the phone was added to the cart but there wasn't anything and were asked to return in 15 minutes as the phone was blocked.

A user mentioned that the Chrome browser took a lot of time loading the Flipkart page and, in the meanwhile, the phone was available on Mozilla browser. There are many angry users on Facebook who were unhappy with Xiaomi's strategy as they were not able to buy the device. Earlier, the Mi 3 was sold out in 40 minutes in the first sale and five seconds during the second sale.

The next sale of the Mi 3 will be on August 12 and registrations for the same will begin at 6 pm on Tuesday, the company said.

Trai floats plan to put fee on free apps like WhatsApp

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) will meet on Tuesday to initiate the process of bringing in a regulation for over-the-top (OTT) companies or providers of apps like WhatsApp and Viber to pay connectivity charges to telecom companies and share revenue with the government as well.

Trai on Monday said a seminar will be organised on Tuesday on regulatory framework for OTT services that aims to provide a platform to exchange the views on key issues related to OTT such as new developments in OTT, impact of OTT on telecom services providers and their counter measures, legal and regulatory framework for OTT.

Following the seminar, Trai would come up with a discussion paper on OTT players, said a Trai official.

However, the telecom regulator is unlikely to pose any major restrictions on OTT players.
Currently, these apps have become very popular amongst mobile users by running on telecom bandwidth without being connected to the telecom industry. They offer free messaging across any telecom network in India, resulting in losses to telcos.
Mobile companies, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, want apps providers to pay a connectivity charge. According to telecom industry estimates, telcos currently lose around Rs 5,000 crore annually due to these free apps and the figure is expected to cross Rs 16,400 crore in the next two years, as mobile subscribers using smartphone with internet are growing rapidly.

A senior official with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said that the OTT players would anyway have to follow the law of the land.

"We may be asking them to put their servers in India as they get connected to any telecom network in India without getting themselves registered that is something which is also a security concern for us," the official added.

The government had earlier said that it wasn't looking at regulating these Internet-based services, though mobile operators have been pressing for it.
