Facebook Inc. has partnered with online payments startup Stripe Inc. to develop a “Buy” button that allows customers to buy items while in the social network, reported Re/code Thursday.
The partnership follows Facebook’s appointment of David Marcus, PayPal’s ex-president, who now heads the social network’s messaging products.
The button is designed to let users buy goods and services that appear in ads or posts on Facebook, according to Re/code. Stripe’s technology has reportedly been supporting the button.
Stripe is Facebook’s only payments partner for the prototype button, said spokespersons with the companies in statements to Re/code Thursday.
Facebook has partnered on separate projects with other payment processors, including PayPal’s Braintree.
