Infosys will pay big money, a little more than $5 million or about Rs 30 crore as it tasks Vishal Sikka to take the reins of chief executive, making the Indian-born US citizen the highest paid professional CEOs running not just domestic information technology firms but companies across sectors.
The Bangalore-based software exporter will pay $9,00,000 in base salary and $4.18 million in variable pay to the former SAP board member, the company told the Bombay Stock Exchange in a filing on Wednesday. Sikka would also stand to receive another $2 million in restricted stock unit, as the company seeks shareholder nod in the extra ordinary general meeting on 30 July.
Sikka was earning $5.75 million, including salary and other benefits, at his earlier company, SAP, the German software company.
Some experts maintain that pay packages of $2million -$3 million are comparable to international standards, with average cash compensation including the bonus is $1.85 million in companies with more than 100,000 employees in the US and Western Europe.
"The salary is comparable to the compensation of the top CEOs in the world's largest companies," said Conrad Prambock, Head of Compensation Consulting, Pedersen & Partners. "The salary of the new CEO of Infosys is high by Indian standards but in line with the top CEOs on a global level"
