The Rajasthan University's first cut-off list based on percentiles has cost dearly to students passing out from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The equivalence method based on comparative percentiles of Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) and CBSE adopted by the state government has exceedingly gone in favor of the RBSE students.
Sample this: The cut-off of general category in B Com pass course in Commerce College for CBSE students was 94.20% whereas for RBSE students it was only 82.40%. The number of CBSE students who made it to the first list was only 47 out of 197 students, which is almost down to half as compared to last year in the general category of Commerce College's list.
It would mean that chances of CBSE students getting admission in prestigious colleges under Delhi University or Jawahar Lal Nehru University is far better than in the constituent colleges of the Rajasthan University. Most of the premier colleges affiliated to Delhi University's cut-off is now lower than that RU.
Similarly, in Maharani's College the number of CBSE students getting admission has reduced from 45% in the first list to 23% this year. Similar, is the situation in the other constituent colleges - Rajasthan and Commerce College. The percentile method has resulted in the sharp decline in the nunber of CBSE students in the constituent colleges of RU.
On Friday, two more colleges-Maharaja and Rajasthan has declared its cut-offs (percentile method) which has given respite to the students who were waiting from since June 16. Till the last report came, Maharaja College had declared cut-offs in BSC-Maths and Bio and Rajasthan College has just declared its BA Pass course list.
"So far we have prepared the B A Pass Course list and in a day or two we will come out with our honours course list," said Vipin Tayal, principal of Rajasthan College. The cut-off released on the basis of percentiles doesn't give a clear idea to the students about their admission as they don't know their percentile scores yet. Those students who made it were overjoyed and those left out were waiting for the second list.
N K Pandit, principal of Maharaja College, said, "Now, the method is clear. We will come up with the second list soon. Students are requested to see the university website for the list."
Rajasthan University officials have also informed that they have reserved some seats for students who have appeared in boards other than CBSE and RBSE as the varsity is yet to receive their merit list based on the percentile method.
